Job Postings Continue Downward Trend Seen Past Few Weeks

(Albany, NY, January 18, 2012) – Job postings in the Region declined yet again last week, the second week in a row, after a big increase right after New Year’s Day. Postings for the last seven day period came in at 1650, down from 2058 the week before. “This up and down is similar to years past as business returns to normal operations and plans for 2012 are implemented during the month of January. What is concerning is that posting are down better than one-half from 2011 at this time when the market appeared to be much stronger before fizzling in the 3rd and 4th quarters. We should see a bump within the next week or two if situation normal; let’s hope that occurs or there will be cause for strong concern”, stated Dan Moran, Founder & President of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie.

Results were similar in other New York State markets with postings declining in all NYS markets this past week. The Capital Region is a much smaller market as well in terms of population and number of employers.

Next-Act’s Tip of the Week to Job Seekers

“Check your digital presence frequently to be sure you know what is posted about you in Face Book, LinkedIn or the Internet. Some have been surprised to find personal photos posted that should not be or false or inaccurate information. Know that employers routinely check to see what is online about a person – be sure you know beforehand”, suggested Moran.
