Job Postings Flat past seven days – May be a good sign …

(Albany, NY, January 25, 2012) – Job postings in the Region declined very slightly the past seven days, perhaps indicating a flattening before growth which would be expected. Postings for the last seven day period came in at 1550, down from 1650 the week before. “We need to see some forward movement to return confidence to the employer market and to date in 2012, this has not occurred. Typically the 3rd and 4th weeks of January is when we see a growth in job market activity. What we are seeing this week – a flattening of the decline – is hopefully a good indicator and I’ll be watching the numbers day-by-day to see. Employers need to see signs of confidence in the market and their business that will be followed by hiring, and that isn’t happening yet.”, stated Dan Moran, Founder & President of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie.

Moran added, “What is very concerning is that available jobs in our Region are down better than 45% from last year. Employers seem to be holding back on hiring to meet current needs”.

Results were similar in other New York State markets with postings flat or slightly declining in all NYS markets this past week. The Capital Region is a much smaller market as well in terms of population and number of employers.
