Job Postings Increase After Thanksgiving Holiday   - Up 18% Past Week

(Albany, NY,  December 5, 2012) –  As expected, after the long Thanksgiving holiday when job market activity usually drops, the Regional job market is recovering growing close to 18% in one week, welcome news for job seekers. “Over the past few weeks, just before and during the holiday week, I was hearing from those in the market who were concerned that job opportunities were far fewer that a few weeks past. This is common and expected; our regional job market goes quiet just before and right after a major holiday like we saw this year. What I look for is the recovery – and it is happening now, day by day”, stated Dan Moran, of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie.

Job postings in the Region were 1560 the past week, compared to 1330 the week before showing a positive increase. “Job seekers – take advantage of this window now and up until about a week before Christmas as there is plenty of year-end hiring yet to occur”.

Other markets in NYS, with the exception of NYC, were down the past seven days and continued to recover or hold steady after the holiday indicating a lower demand than the Capital Region. The Capital Region continues to still outpace Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, all larger markets with more employers and population.

National Job Scene

As of 11/28/12, there were,  on a seven-day-average,  529,806 national job postings showing recovery after the holiday  The top five areas for the most jobs per capita still continue to remain unchanged: San Jose, CA, Washington DC, Boston, MA, Raleigh, NC and Oklahoma City, OK. There is one job posting per unemployed person in each of these markets meaning the market is much less competitive.
