For Immediate Release

July 3, 2013

Job Postings Flat in Region after big drop week before -

(Albany, NY,  July 3, 2013) –  Job postings were flat the past seven days after a hefty drop last week by 13%. “I really thought we might see the job market go down again in advance of the holiday, but it did not happen to the degree that was expected. Postings were unchanged at 1720”, stated Dan Moran, of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie. Moran added,

“As we begin a longer holiday period, we expect that the market would get rather quiet as vacations and lower business activity take their toll and we could see this happen tomorrow or early next week. But for now – flat is better than down!”

Other markets in NYS posted similar results with flat or very slight decreases.. The Capital Region continues to still outpace Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, all larger markets with more employers and population.

National Job Scene

On the national level, job postings began to rally a bit after a few weeks of significant decreases. As the stock market began to show slightly better results, the job market followed which is not unusual. Postings were 530,500 compared with 514,000 the week before..
