Job Postings Down As Holiday Hits -

(Albany, NY,  January 23, 2013) –  After two good, solid weeks of results and significant increases in the number of job postings in our region, statewide and nationally, the market cooled a bit likely the effect of the national holiday Monday. “When holidays occur during the week and many employers close down for a day or two, job market activity is affected and we saw this past week beginning last Friday. This will be temporary for sure”, stated Dan Moran, of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie.

Postings came in at just about 1575, down 200 from the week before. “The market is still stronger than last year at this point and that is a good sign. We are off to a stronger start than last year and I hope this trend continues”.

Other markets in NYS saw the same results and those markets were down slightly the past seven days. The Capital Region continues to still outpace Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, all larger markets with more employers and population.

National Job Scene

Job postings we down a bit over 10% for the past seven days, with larger decreases toward the end of last week. As of 1/23/2013  there were,  on a seven-day-average, 523,332 job postings down from 582,783  job postings nationally the week prior.
