Job Postings Continue to Post Strong Gains - up significantly across state and nationally

(Albany, NY,  January 16, 2013) –  Continuing the trend, job postings increased significantly again in the Region the past seven days showing strength in the local job market as we enter the 1st quarter of 2013. Postings averaged 1800 the past seven days, up from 1436 the week prior and just over 1,000 the week before.   “It appears that 2013 is starting strong – stronger than 2012 for the same period for sure, and this is good news for everyone. As reported last week, the job market seems to be picking up earlier this year. For those considering making a job change, don’t wait; for those unemployed this is good news too”, stated Dan Moran, of Next-Act (www.next-act.com), a career transition management firm located in Colonie.

“There has been some other good news in the market which may be buoying employer confidence with the expansion of Global Foundries and other business expansions – that always helps”.

Other markets in NYS did not see the same results and those markets were flat the past seven days. The Capital Region continues to still outpace Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, all larger markets with more employers and population.

National Job Scene

Job posting have surged nationally as well. As of 1/292013  there were,  on a seven-day-average,  582,783  job postings nationally up from
481,432, the week prior which is a significant increase and  consistent with results in our region.
